BREAKING: Cubs Reportedly In Agreement With All-Star Closer Craig Kimbrel

The Cubs bullpen just improved a lot. It’s being reported that All-Star closer Craig Kimbrel has reached an agreement to sign with the Cubs, pending a physical.

Even better news for the Cubs, it’s reported that it’s a multiyear deal for Kimbrel:

Kimbrel has been a free agent since day 1 of Free Agency. His high asking price kept teams from signing him until now. Kimbrel went 5-1 with 42 saves and a 2.74 ERA last season. He’s a huge acquisition for the Cubs bullpen that’s desperately needed a closer.

Craig Kimbrel is a 7x All-Star, 2x Reliever of the Year, and 4x NL Saves leader. He has 333 career saves. Once again, this is a huge move for the Cubs.

Whether or not Kimbrel can still pitch at a high level of dominance is unknown. He hasn’t pitched in a game since last October but as the 14th All-Time Saves Leader, Kimbrel can certainly be an impact.

UPDATE: It’s a 3-year deal with an option:
