Cole Hamels left Friday night’s game against the Reds before the bottom of the 2nd inning after 2 warm-up pitches. After the Cubs loss to Cincinnati, Joe Maddon updated Hamels and it’s not good.
Maddon: Hamels will go on IL with left oblique strain. More info Saturday after MRI.

Kyle Hendricks is already on the 10-Day IL with right shoulder inflammation. With Hamels going down too, the Cubs starting rotation is losing its depth. Luckily, Adbert Alzolay is here and Tyler Chatwood/Mike Montgomery can fill the 5th starter slot.
Hamels suffered the same injury in 2017 but it was his right oblique. He missed quite a bit of time with the Rangers, finishing the season with only 24 starts. Hopefully this injury isn’t to the same extent for Hamels.
