Cubs Minor League Pitching Was Phenomenal All Around On Friday Night

Starting and relief pitching dominated at all 5 levels in the Cubs farm system on Friday night.

Triple-A Iowa

  • RHP Alec Mills struck out 4 over 6 1/3 innings while allowing 3  runs. Mills was solid in his 1st start back since being sent back down from Chicago. It was his 5th quality start this season.

Double-A Tennessee

  • RHP Cory Abbott struck out a season-high 9 batters. Abbott fired 7.0 strong innings, giving up just 3 hits and 1 run without a walk. Abbott now has a 3.54 ERA this season and a 1.50 ERA in his last 4 starts.

High-A Myrtle Beach

  • RHP Jeff Passantino continued his domination, yielding 4 hits and 1 run in 6.0 innings. Passantino struck out 5 and walked 1. He reached the 6th inning for the 1st time this season, picking up the quality start. Passantino has a 2.57 ERA in 7 starts this season between Myrtle Beach, Tennessee, and Iowa.

Single-A South Bend

  • LHP Brendon Little was excellent again for South Bend. Little allowed just 5 hits and 1 run over 6.0 innings. He struck out 2 and walked 1. Little has a 1.91 ERA in 6 starts this season.

Low-A Eugene

  • RHP Michael McAvene was outstanding in 2.0 innings for the Emeralds. McAvene didn’t allow a hit or walk while striking out 5. He was the Cubs 3rd round pick in this year’s draft.
  • LHP Chris Allen followed up with 5.0 shutout relief innings. Allen struck out 2 and walked none. He has a 2.45 ERA  in 33.0 innings (9 games, 2 starts) this season.
