A massive day for offense in the Cubs farm system on Thursday.

Single-A South Bend

Cubs fell to Lake County 12-6.

  • Cubs #26 prospect, 3B Chris Morel went 2-for-4 with a 2-run homer.
  • OF D.J. Artis went 1-for-5 with 3 RBI.
  • DH Jonathan Sierra went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
  • RHP Jeff Passantino allowed three hits and one earned run over 3 1/3 innings of relief. Passantino struck out four and walked none. He’s been dominant through 12 2/3 innings (4 games) this season. Passantino has allowed just two runs while striking out 16.

High-A Myrtle Beach

Pelicans shutout Lynchburg 9-0.

  • Cubs #22 prospect, RHP Oscar De La Cruz fired 5.0 shutout innings in his return from suspension. He struck out three and walked one. De La Cruz was suspended 80 games last July after violating Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
  • 2B Carlos Sepulveda went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, a run scored, and a walk.
  • OF Kevonte Mitchell went 2-for-4 with a 3-run homer.
  • DH Tyler Payne went 2-for-5 with a solo home run.
  • 1B Cam Balego went 1-for-4 with 2 RBI, including a solo homer.

Double-A Tennessee

Smokies fell to Jackson 16-8.

  • Cubs #2 prospect, Nico Hoerner went 3-for-4 with 1 RBI and a run scored. Hoerner is now batting .333 this season through 13 games.
  • OF Roberto Caro went 1-for-2 with 2 RBI, a run scored, and a walk.

Triple-A Iowa

Cubs fell to New Orleans 8-5.

  • CF Ian Happ went 0-for-5 with 3 strikeouts. Happ is batting just .214 with 22 strikeouts in 14 games this season.
  • SS Dixon Machado went 1-for-4 with a 3-run homer. Machado has 2 homers and 7 RBI, batting .343 through 11 games this season.
  • OF Zach Borenstein went 2-for-4 with a solo homer.
  • CF Donnie Dewees went 1-for-1 with 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, and a walk. Dewees is batting .261 with a pair of homers and 6 RBI this season (11 games).
