Double-A Tennessee

Smokies split the doubleheader with Chattanooga 7-6, 4-2

  • Cubs #2 prospect, SS Nico Hoerner had one awesome day. Hoerner went 1-for-3 with a homer in game two. It wasn’t an average homer, it was an inside-the-parker that should never have been inside-the-park. Thanks to some great speed, Hoerner scored in less than 15 seconds on a blooper into left field. That’s FAST. On top of that, Hoerner is now batting .303/.385/.500 this season through 16 games. It’s only a matter of time before the kid is in Iowa.
  • LHP Mike Montgomery allowed three hits and three earned runs over 4.0 innings in his 2nd rehab start. Montgomery struck out three and walked one. The good news is, Montgomery said he “felt good” after the start, meaning his return could be anytime now.
  • 3B Robel Garcia went 2-for-4 with a 2-run homer in game one.
  • C Jhonny Pereda went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI in game one.
  • LF Jared Young went 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored in game one.

  • 1B Jim Adduci went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI, a run scored, and a walk.
  • 2B Cristhian Adames went 2-for-4 with a solo homer.
