Cubs Minor League Recap (4/23)

Cubs #9 prospect, RHP Cory Abbott came through with another solid start on a big day for offense in the farm system.

Single-A South Bend

Cubs fell to Lansing 6-5.

  • #30 prospect, SS Andy Weber went 1-for-4 with 3 RBI and a walk.
  • OF Nelson Velazquez went 1-for-5 with 1 RBI and a run scored. Velazquez is batting .300 this season with 18 hits through 16 games this season.

High-A Myrtle Beach

Pelicans fell to Carolina 7-3.

  •  OF Zach Davis went 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored and a walk.

Double-A Tennessee

Smokies beat Chattanooga 11-4.

  • #2 prospect, SS Nico Hoerner was pulled after being hit by a pitch in the forearm. Hopefully, everything comes back good on Hoerner.
  • #9 prospect, RHP Cory Abbott threw his first quality start of the season with another strong performance. Abbott went 6.0 innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs. He struck out six and walked two. Abbott has yielded just 5 earned runs in 22 1/3 innings (4 starts) this season. After going 8-6 with a 2.50 ERA last year, it won’t be long before Abbott’s in Iowa.
  • 1B Jared Young went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored.
  • C Jhonny Pereda went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI and a run scored.
  • 2B Robel Garcia went 1-for-5 with 2 RBI and a run scored.
