Cubs Minor League Recap (4/24)

Addison Russell made his debut on Wednesday for Iowa. It was also another strong day for pitching with great performances at every level.

Single-A South Bend

Cubs beat Lansing 10-8.

  • #5 prospect, OF Cole Roederer went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI.
  • #30 prospect, SS Andy Weber went 2-for-5 with 1 RBI.
  • LHP Ryan Lawlor picked up the win after throwing 3.0 scoreless innings of relief. Lawlor struck out three and walked one.
  • 2B Delvin Zinn went 5-for-5 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored.
  • 1B Tyler Durna went 2-for-5 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored.
  • OF D.J. Artis went 2-for-4 with 1 RBI, a walk, and 2 runs scored.

High-A Myrtle Beach

Pelicans beat Carolina 3-2.

  • #22 prospect, RHP Oscar De La Cruz was terrific over 6.0 innings. De La Cruz allowed five hits and one earned run. He struck out eight and walked none. Since returning from his suspension, De La Cruz has allowed just 1 run in 11.0 innings (2 starts) while striking out 11.
  • #6 prospect, SS Aramis Ademan went 2-for-3 with 1 RBI, a triple, and a walk.
  • 2B Jhonny Bethencourt went 2-for-3 with 1 RBI.

Double-A Tennessee

Smokies fell to Chattanooga 4-3.

  • RHP Zach Hedges fired 5.0 shutout innings in his 3rd start. Hedges allowed three hits while striking out three and walking one.
  • 3B Robel Garcia went 1-for-5 with a 3-run homer. Garcia continues to rake with 4 homers and 16 RBI through 9 games this season.
  • 2B Christian Donahue went 2-for-5 with a run scored.
  • SS Clayton Daniel went 2-for-4. Daniel is batting .385 through 9 games this season.

Triple-A Iowa

Cubs beat Nashville 6-4.

  • SS Addison Russell made his debut, going 1-for-4 with 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, and a walk. Russell is eligible to return to the Cubs as soon as May 3rd.
  • CF Ian Happ went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a walk. Happ has been picking it up in his last 2 games, going 3-for-8 with a homer and 2 RBI.
  • RHP Matt Swarmer threw 6.0 innings, allowing just a pair of hits and an earned run. Swarmer struck out six and walked one.
  • 3B Cristhian Adames went 2-for-3 with a solo homer, 2 RBI, and 2 walks. Adames is 4-for-7 in his last 2 games with 2 homers and 3 RBI.
