Cubs Minor League Recap (4/26)

A solid day for offense and relief pitching in the Cubs farm system.

Single-A South Bend Cubs

Cubs beat Fort Wayne 7-4.

  • #15 prospect, OF Nelson Velazquez went 3-for-5 with 3 runs scored. Velazquez is 7-for-13 in his last 3 games, batting .342 through 19 games this season.
  • 3B Chris Morel went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.
  • LHP Faustino Carrera allowed just six hits and one earned run over 6.0 innings. Carrera struck out four and walked three.

High-A Myrtle Beach

Pelicans fell to Salem 7-5.

  • #1 prospect, C Miguel Amaya went 1-for-4 with a 2-run homer. Amaya is only batting .233 this season but has 4 homers and 10 RBI through 17 games.
  • 2B Yeiler Peguero went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI.
  • 1B Cam Balego went 2-for-3 with a run scored and 2 walks. Balego has reached base in 9 consecutive games, batting .344 this season.

Double-A Tennessee

Smokies fell to Jacksonville 6-3.

  • 1B P.J. Higgins went 2-for-5 with a 2-run homer. Higgins is batting .328 with 3 homers and 9 RBI in 18 games.
  • 3B Robel Garcia went 2-for-4 with 1 RBI and a walk. Garcia has 17 RBI through only 11 games this season.
  • RHP Brad Markey threw 4.0 solid relief innings, allowing three hits and an unearned run. Markey struck out two and walked two.

Triple-A Iowa

Cubs fell to Nashville 2-1.

  • SS Addison Russell went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.
  • CF Ian Happ went 0-for-3 with a walk. Happ’s batting average drops to .218 through 21 games this season.
  • OF Donnie Dewees went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
  • RHP Trevor Clifton was strong over 3 1/3 innings of relief. Clifton allowed three hits while striking out three and walking two. He has yet to allow a run through 11 2/3 innings this season.
