Cubs Minor League Recap (4/5)

The Cubs farm system had another overall successful day with great pitching.

Single-A South Bend

South Bend beat West Michigan 1-0.

  • Cubs #15-ranked prospect OF Nelson Velazquez went 1-for-3.
  • C Rafelin Lorenzo went 0-for-3 with 1 RBI.
  • RHP Cam Sanders picked up the win after a great start. Sanders tossed 5.0 shutout innings, allowing just 3 hits. He walked one and struck out two.
  • RHP Jeff Passantino dominated in middle relief. Passantino struck out 6 in 3.0 innings, allowing just a hit.

High-A Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach fell to Lynchburg 6-3.

  • Cubs #1-ranked prospect, C Miguel Amaya went 2-for-4 with a homer and 2 RBI.
  • LHP Bryan Hudson allowed 7 hits and 2 earned runs over 5.0 innings of work. Hudson walked one and struck out six.

Double-A Tennessee

Tennessee fell to Montgomery 4-3.

  • Cubs #2-ranked prospect, SS Nico Hoerner went 2-for-4 with 1 RBI and a walk.
  • Cubs #9-ranked prospect, RHP Cory Abbott turned in an excellent start. Abbott allowed just 3 hits and 1 earned run over 5.0 innings. He walked one and struck out two.

Triple-A Iowa

Iowa fell to Nashville 8-2.

  • CF Ian Happ went 0-for-4 with 2 strikeouts.
  • LF Donnie Dewees went 3-for-3 with a homer and 2 runs scored.
  • LHP Brian Duensing allowed 5 hits and 3 runs in 1.0 inning of relief.
