Cubs Minor League Recap (5/13)

It was an awesome day for pitching in South Bend and Myrtle Beach.

Single-A South Bend

Cubs shutout Bowling Green 3-0.

  • #1 pitching and #3 overall prospect, LHP Brailyn Marquez turned in his best start of the season. Marquez fired 5.0 shutout innings, allowing only four hits. He struck out six and walked none. Marquez is 1-0 with a 2.52 ERA in 6 starts this season. He has struck out 36 in 25.0 innings. Marquez probably has the best potential amongst all young arms in the Cubs system.
  • #30 prospect, SS/2B Andy Weber went 3-for-4. Weber is batting .250 this season with 18 RBI through 32 games.

High-A Myrtle Beach

Pelicans destroyed Winston Salem 11-1.

  • RHP Erling Moreno dominated over 7.0 innings. Moreno allowed five hits and one earned run. He struck out two and walked three. Moreno has allowed just two earned runs over his last 13 1/3 innings (2 starts).
  • #1 prospect, C Miguel Amaya went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and a walk.
  • #6 prospect, SS Aramis Ademan went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and a walk.
  • OF Kevonte Mitchell went 2-for-5 with a 3-run homer for a total of 4 RBI.

Double-A Tennessee

Smokies lost both games of doubleheader;  6-1 and 4-1.

  • OF Jared Young went 2-for-3 with a run scored in game one. He went 1-for-2 with 1 RBI in game two. Young is batting .263 with 3 homers and 21 RBI through 33 games this season.

Triple-A Iowa

Cubs fell to Omaha 11-5.

  • C Victor Caratini went 3-for-5 with 1 RBI in his 3rd rehab start for Iowa.
  • CF Ian Happ went 0-for-4 with a walk.
  • DH/3B  Phillip Evans went 2-for-5 with a solo homer for a total of 2 RBI. Evans is batting .287 with 5 homers and 23 RBI in 36 games this season.
  • SS Dixon Machado went 1-for-4 with a solo homer and 2 runs scored. Machado is batting .275 with 6 homers and 29 walks through 32 games.
  • 3B Robel Garcia went 2-for-5. Garcia   has now reached base in 24 of his 27 games this season.
