Cubs Minor League Recap (5/14)

Tuesday was a big day for offense all around and pitching in Myrtle Beach and Tennessee.

Single-A South Bend

Cubs beat Bowling Green 6-4.

  • #30 prospect, SS/2B Andy Weber went 3-for-4 with a run scored. Weber is batting .278 over his last 10 games.
  • #15 prospect, OF Nelson Velazquez went 2-for-3 with 1 RBI and a walk.
  • C Eric Gonzalez went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and a walk.

High-A Myrtle Beach

Pelicans beat Winston Salem 5-2.

  • RHP Paul Richan picked up the win after 6 2/3 strong innings. Richan allowed just seven hits and one run while striking out seven. He has allowed just two earned runs over his last 2 starts (12 2/3 innings).
  • 1B Cam Balego went 1-for-3 with a solo homer.
  • OF Kevonte Mitchell went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and 1 walk.

Double-A Tennessee

Smokies beat Birmingham 9-4.

  • #17 prospect, RHP Tom Hatch was solid over 5.0 innings. Hatch allowed four hits and two earned runs. He struck out three and walked two.
  • 3B P.J. Higgins went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and a walk.
  • OF Charcer Burks went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and 2 walks.
  • DH/3B Jesse Hodges went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI.

Triple-A Iowa

Cubs fell to Omaha 8-1.

  • DH/C Ian Rice went 2-for-3. Rice is batting .256 with 2 homers and 6 RBI in 11 games for Iowa.
