Cubs Minor League Recap (5/16)

Strong pitching  in South Bend, Tennessee, and Iowa on Thursday night in the Cubs farm system.

Single-A South Bend Cubs

Cubs beat Dayton 7-2.

  • RHP Eury Ramos went 5 2/3 innings, allowing just three hits and two earned runs. He struck out four and walked four. Ramos  is 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA in his last 2 starts.
  • DH/2B Delvin Zinn went 3-for-4 with 2 solo home runs. Zinn is batting .318 through 28 games this season.
  • 1B Tyler Durna went 2-for-4 with 1 RBI.
  • #15 prospect, OF Nelson Velazquez went 1-for-3 with 1 RBI and a walk.

High-A Myrtle Beach

Pelicans fell to Winston Salem 6-0.

  • Myrtle Beach had 2 hits. They allowed 10 hits.

Double-A Tennessee

Smokies beat Jackson 3-2.

  • #22 prospect, RHP Oscar De La Cruz had another strong start. De La Cruz yielded three hits and two earned runs over 6 1/3 innings. He struck out two and walked three. De La Cruz also blasted his first career home run. He is 2-1 with a 1.39 ERA in 6 starts this season.
  • 2B Vimael Machin went 2-for-4 with 1 RBI.

Triple-A Iowa

Cubs split the doubleheader; 0-7 and 5-2.

  • SS Dixon Machado went 2-for-2 with a walk in game one. Machado went 1-for-2 with a grand slam in game two. He is batting .284 this season with 7 homers and 22 RBI in 35 games.
  • RHP Colin Rea was solid again over 5.0 innings. Rea allowed four hits and two earned runs while striking out seven. He is 2-1 with a 1.74 ERA in his last 4 starts.
