Cubs #1 pitching prospect Brailyn Marquez shined again along with 5 prospects homering on Sunday.

Single-A South Bend

Cubs beat Dayton 8-4.

  • #1 pitching prospect, LHP Brailyn Marquez was excellent again. Marquez fired 5.0 innings, allowing just 2 hits and 2 earned runs. He struck out six and walked two. Marquez is on a very nice trend, now 2-0 with a 1.53 ERA in his last 4 starts. In 17 2/3 innings, he has struck out 23 during the stretch. His fastball notably on Sunday hit 100 mph in-game.
  • #26 prospect, 3B Chris Morel went 2-for-3 with a solo homer.
  • 1B Tyler Durna went 1-for-3 with 3 RBI.
  • OF D.J. Artis went 2-for-4 with a solo homer.

High-A Myrtle Beach

Pelicans beat Lynchburg 5-4 in 10.

  • 3B Cam Balego went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. He reached base three times with a HBP.
  • OF Kevonte Mitchell went 2-for-4 with a solo homer.
  • DH/3B Wladimir Galindo went 2-for-5 with a solo homer.

Double-A Tennessee

Smokies fell to Jackson 7-1.

  • Nothing good to report on.

Triple-A Iowa

Cubs split doubleheader; 5-4 and 0-3.

  • CF Ian Happ went a combined 0-for-6 with 5 strikeouts.
  • 3B Robel Garcia went 1-for-3 with a 2-run homer in game one. Garcia now has 8 homers and 32 RBI, batting .287 in 32 games this season. He has been the biggest surprise of the Cubs farm system to date.
  • OF Johnny Field went 2-for-3 with 1 RBI in game one.
