Starting pitching starred in the Cubs farm system on Friday night.

Single-A South Bend

Cubs shutout West Michigan 4-0.

  • #27 prospect, RHP Riley Thompson was lights out over 6.0 innings. Thompson allowed only 3 hits while striking out 6 and walking none. He is 3-2 with a 2.31 ERA in 8 starts this season. Thompson also now has three 5.0+ inning shutouts this year.
  • 2B Rafael Narea went 2-for-3 with 1 RBI.
  • 1B Tyler Durna went 1-for-3 with 1 RBI. Durna is batting .272 through 43 games this season.

High-A Myrtle Beach

Pelicans beat Wilmington 2-1.

  • RHP Erling Moreno yielded just 2 hits and 1 earned run in 5.0 innings. Moreno struck out 3 and walked 4 while picking up the win.
  • #6 prospect, SS Aramis Ademan went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Double-A Tennessee

Smokies beat Pensacola 5-1.

  • #8 prospect, LHP Justin Steele produced one of his best starts this season. Steele allowed 5 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 4 and walking 1.
  • 3B Jesse Hodges went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and a walk.
  • OF Charcer Burks went 2-for-3 with 1 RBI.

Triple-A Iowa

Cubs fell to Omaha 6-2.

  • DH/CF Ian Happ went 0-for-4 with 2 strikeouts.
  • #20 prospect, 1B/2B Trent Giambrone went 2-for-4 with 1 RBI.
  • 3B Robel Garcia went 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Garcia is now up to 10 homers this season, batting .290 through 37 games.
