Cubs Minor League Recap (5/29)

Strong pitching in South Bend and Tennessee led the Cubs farm system on Wednesday.

Single-A South Bend

Cubs walked-off Lake County 5-4.

  • LHP Faustino Carrera was excellent again in 5.0 innings. Carrera allowed just 3 hits and 2 earned runs. He struck out 5 and walked 2. Carrera is 3-2 with a 2.91 ERA in 9 games (8 starts) this season.
  • 2B Delvin Zinn went 2-for-5 with 3 RBI.
  • OF Jonathan Sierra went 2-for-5 with 1 RBI.

High-A Myrtle Beach

Pelicans fell to Potomac 8-0.

  • 2B Carlos Sepulveda was the lone highlight, going 2-for-4.

Double-A Tennessee

Smokies beat Biloxi 2-1.

  • #19 prospect, RHP Tyson Miller dominated again over 6.0 innings. Miller yielded 5 hits and 1 earned run. He struck out 6 and walked none. Miller is 3-2 with a 2.06 ERA in 10 starts this season.
  • 1B P.J. Higgins went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk.
  • 3B Jesse Hodges went 1-for-3 with 1 RBI.
  • RHP Craig Brooks threw his 14th scoreless relief appearance in 15 games this season. Brooks struck out 2 in 2.0 innings. He has a 0.44 ERA with 34 strikeouts in 20.2 innings this season.

Triple-A Iowa

Cubs fell to New Orleans 3-1.

  • CF Ian Happ went 2-for-3 with a walk.
  • 3B Robel Garcia went 1-for-3 with his 11th homer of the season. Garcia is batting .288 with 39 RBI in 42 games.
