A big day for pitching and offense in the Cubs farm system on Friday.

Single-A South Bend

Cubs fell to Clinton 3-1.

  • LHP Faustino Carrera tossed his 2nd consecutive quality start. Carrera allowed three hits and two earned runs over 6.0 innings. He struck out six and walked one.

High-A Myrtle Beach

Pelicans crushed Salem 12-2.

  • RHP Javier Assad fired 6.0 shutout innings, allowing just three hits. Assad struck out three and walked three. His highlight of the night wasn’t the shutout but an insane soccer-style out at first.
  • 1B Cam Balego went 3-for-5 with 2 RBI and a run scored.
  • SS Jhonny Bethencourt went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI and a run scored.
  • #1 prospect, C Miguel Amaya went 2-for-5 with 2 runs scored.
  • #6 prospect, 2B Aramis Ademan went 2-for-4 with 1 RBI and a run scored.

Double-A Tennessee

Smokies fell to Jackson 16-9.

  • 1B Vimael Machin went 3-for-5 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Machin is batting .414 over his last 10 games.
  • OF Jared Young went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI and a walk.
  • 3B Robel Garcia went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and 2 walks. Garcia has reached base in 10 consecutive games.
  • RHP Thomas Hatch went 1-for-1 with 2 RBI at the plate, the only highlight of his night.

Triple-A Iowa

Cubs destroyed Omaha 9-1.

  • LHP Mike Montgomery made his 4th rehab start with 6.0 dominant innings. Montgomery allowed just one hit and one run while striking out three and walking two.
  • SS Addison Russell went 1-for-4 with a grand slam in the 6th.
  • CF Ian Happ went 0-for-2 with 3 walks and a run scored.
  • DH Phillip Evans went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Evans has 8 RBI in his last 6 games.
  • 1B Jim Adduci went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI and a run scored.
