Cubs Minor League Recap (5/31)

Solid offense all around led the Cubs farm system on Friday.

Single-A South Bend

Cubs fell to Dayton 5-4.

  • 1B Tyler Durna went 2-for-4 with 1 RBI and a walk.
  • #30 prospect, SS/2B Andy Weber went 2-for-5 with 1 RBI.

High-A Myrtle Beach

Pelicans fell to Potomac 6-3 in 5 innings (rain shortened).

  • DH/OF Jimmy Herron went 1-for-2 with a 2-run homer.
  • 3B Cam Balego went 1-for-1 with a solo homer and a walk.

Double-A Tennessee

Smokies fell to Biloxi 8-5.

  • #17 prospect, RHP Thomas Hatch was solid over 5.1 innings. Hatch allowed 3 hits and 0 earned runs. He struck out 4 and walked none in the no-decision.
  • #29 prospect, C Jhonny Pereda went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI.
  • SS/2B Vimael Machin went 2-for-3 with 3 runs scored and a walk. That brings Machin’s average up to .342 this season in 46 games split between AA Tennessee and AAA Iowa.
  • 1B/OF Jared Young went 1-for-3 with 1 RBI and a walk. Young is batting .276 through 48 games for Tennessee this season.

Triple-A Iowa

Cubs fell to Round Rock 8-1.

  • CF Ian Happ went 0-for-4 with a strikeout.
  • LF Mark Zagunis went 1-for-3 with 1 RBI and a walk.
