Cubs Minor League Recap (5/6): NO-HITTER!

Cubs pitching prospects Derek Casey and Peyton Remy with South Bend combined for a 9-inning no-hitter on Monday night.

Single-A South Bend

Cubs no-hit Cedar Rapids 2-0.

  • RHP Derek Casey started the no-hitter with 7.0 perfect innings. Casey struck out six, facing the minimum
  • RHP Peyton Remy closed out the final 2.0 innings, allowing just a walk while striking out three.
  • Exactly 11 months ago on June 6th, 2018, RHP Rollie Lacy and RHP Ben Hecht combined for a 9-inning no-hitter as well for South Bend.
  • C Victor Caratini went 1-for-2 with a double and a strikeout in his first rehab start.
  • 1B Tyler Durna went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored.

Double-A Tennessee

Smokies fell to Chattanooga 3-2.

  • #19 prospect, RHP Tyson Miller had another dominant start. Miller fired 6.0 shutout innings, allowing three hits. He struck out five and walked one. Miller is 1-1 this season with a 0.86 ERA through 6 starts. He also just won the Cubs Minor League Pitcher of the Month honor on Monday.
  • 2B Robel Garcia went 1-for-4 with 1 RBI. Garcia has reached base in 12 consecutive games. He is batting .324 with 6 homers and 26 RBI in 20 games. Consequently, Garcia was named the Cubs Minor League Player of the Month on Monday.

Triple-A Iowa

Cubs beat Omaha 6-3.

  • SS Addison Russell went 1-for-5 with a run scored.
  • CF Ian Happ went 1-for-5 with a run scored.
  • LHP Randy Rosario threw a clean 8th inning, not allowing a base runner. Rosario struck out one in his 2nd appearance for Iowa since being sent down.
  • C Francisco Arcia went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI.
  • OF Wynton Bernard went 3-for-3 with 2 RBI, a run scored, and a walk.
