Cubs Minor League Recap (5/8)

Starting pitching came up big again in the Cubs farm system on Wednesday.

Single-A South Bend

Cubs beat Cedar Rapids 2-1.

  • RHP Eury Ramos was excellent over 5.0 innings. Ramos allowed just three hits without a run. He struck out seven and walked none.
  • #26 prospect, 3B Chris Morel went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

High-A Myrtle Beach

Pelicans beat Down East 4-2.

  • RHP Paul Richan dominated with 6.0 strong innings, allowing five hits and one run. Richan struck out eight and walked zero.
  • #1 prospect, C Miguel Amaya went 1-for-1 with 1 RBI and 3 walks.
  • OF Jimmy Herron went 1-for-3 with 1 RBI, a run scored, and 2 walks. Herron has been on a tear over his last 10 games, batting .394 with 9 RBI and 10 walks.

Double-A Tennessee

Smokies beat Chattanooga 6-5.

  • OF Christian Donahue went 3-for-3 with a homer and 4 RBI.
  • 2B Vimael Machin went 2-for-5 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored. Machin is batting .333 with 8 RBI through 27 combined games between Tennessee and Iowa.

Triple-A Iowa

Cubs fell to Memphis 2-1.

  • RHP Trevor Clifton was strong over 6.0 innings. Clifton allowed just five hits and a run while striking out three. Clifton is 1-0 with a 1.19 ERA in 6 games (5 starts) this season. He has struck out 27 in 22 2/3 innings.
  • OF Wynton Bernard went 2-for-4 with a solo homer.
  • OF Donnie Dewees went 2-for-5. Dewees is batting .354 with 3 homers and 16 RBI in 26 games this season.
