Cubs Minor League Recap (6/2)

A lot of good in the Cubs farm system on Sunday.

Single-A South Bend

Cubs fell to Dayton 4-2.

  • #26 prospect, 3B Chris Morel went 1-for-3 with 1 RBI.
  • #30 prospect, SS/2B Andy Weber went 2-for-4 with a walk. Weber is now batting .273 with 25 RBI in 51 games this season.

High-A Myrtle Beach

Pelicans fell to Wilmington 7-6 in 10.

  • 1B  Luke Reynolds went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI and a walk.
  • DH/OF Grant Fennell went 1-for-2 with 2 RBI and a walk. Fennell now has 8 RBI in his last 9 games.
  • #6 prospect, SS Aramis Ademan went 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored and a walk.

Double-A Tennessee

Smokies beat Montgomery 6-3.

  • The Smokies recorded 16 hits in this one.
  • #22 prospect, RHP Oscar De La Cruz was strong over 6.0 innings. De La Cruz allowed 3 hits and 2 earned runs. He struck out 4 and walked 1. De La Cruz is now 4-2 with a 2.79 ERA in 9 starts this season.
  • OF Roberto Caro went 5-for-6 with 2 RBI. 5 hits are a new career-high for Caro. He’s batting .289 through 50 games this season, including .390 over his last 10.
  • OF Connor Myers went 3-for-5 with 2 RBI.

Triple-A Iowa

Cubs beat Round Rock 8-5.

  • OF Carlos Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in his 2nd game.
  • RHP Pedro Strop got the win in his 3rd rehab appearance. Strop struck out 1 and walked 1 in 1.0 inning of work. He threw 14 pitches with 7 for strikes.
  • OF Ian Happ went 0-for-4 with a walk and 2 strikeouts.
  • INF Robel Garcia went 1-for-5 with a solo homer, his 13th of the season. Garcia is batting .296 with 41 RBI in 46 games this season.
  • #20 prospect, 2B Trent Giambrone went 1-for-4 with a 2-run homer.
