Cubs Minor League Recap (7/3)

The Cubs farm system went 3-2 on Tuesday.

Low-A Eugene

Emeralds beat Tri-City 3-2.

  • RHP Zach Mort turned in another quality start for Eugene. Mort went 6.0 innings, yielding 5 hits and 2 runs. He struck out 6 and walked 2. Mort has a 3.60 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 20.0 innings for the Emeralds this season.
  • 2B Yonathan Perlaza went 3-for-4 with 1 RBI.
  • OF Fernando Kelli went 2-for-4 with 1 RBI and a walk.

Single-A South Bend

Cubs fell to West Michigan 5-3.

  • Cubs 2017 1st round pick, LHP Brendon Little made his return from rehabbing an injury in Arizona. Little struck out 3 over 5.0 innings while allowing 3 runs.
  • OF Brennen Davis put 2 of the 3 Cubs runs on the board with a 2-run homer. Davis now has 4 home runs and 16 RBI while hitting .298 in 33 games this season.
  • SS Andy Weber drove in the other run. Weber now has 8 RBI in just his last 10 games.

High-A Myrtle Beach

Pelicans shutout Carolina 1-0.

  • LHP Ryan Kellogg fired 5.0 shutout innings, allowing only a pair of hits. He struck out 2 and walked none.
  • OF D.J. Wilson drove in the lone run. Wilson has 8 RBI in his last 4 games.
  • SS Aramis Ademan went 2-for-3.

Double-A Tennessee

Smokies beat Birmingham 6-3.

  • RHP Alex Lange was excellent once again in his 3rd start for Tennessee. Lange went 6.0 innings, giving up just 4 hits and 2 runs. He struck out 1 and walked 2. Lange is now 2-0 with a 2.50 ERA in 18.0 innings for the Smokies.
  • C P.J. Higgins went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. Higgins is hitting .317 with 9 RBI over his last 10 games. Overall this season, he is .274 at the plate with 5 homers and 37 RBI.
  • 3B Christian Donahue went 1-for-4 with a triple and 2 runs scored.

Triple-A Iowa

Cubs fell to San Antonio 2-1.

  • RHP Jeff Passantino struck out 5 over 5.0 innings, lights out again for Iowa. Passantino gave up just 3 hits and 1 run. Best part, he didn’t walk one better. Passantino now has 11 strikeouts in 11.0 innings (2 starts) for Iowa. He has allowed just 2 runs in 9.0 innings.
  • 2B Trent Giambrone and 3B Phillip Evans each went  2-for-4 at the plate. Evans drove in 1 run. He has 42 RBI in 80 games this season.
