Cubs Minor League Recap (7/4)

The Cubs farm system went 4-1 on Wednesday.

Low-A Eugene

Emeralds crushed Tri-City 7-1.

  • RHP Kohl Franklin for the 4th time in 4 starts this season allowed only 1 run or less. Franklin went 5.0 innings, allowing only 4 hits and 1 run. He struck out 4 and walked 2. Franklin is now 1-1 with a 1.53 ERA in 4 starts (17.2 innings) for Eugene this season.
  • OF Fernando Kelli went 1-for-5 with 2 RBI.
  • OF Edmond Americaan went 1-for-5 with 2 RBI.
  • SS Luis Vazquez went 2-for-4 with 1 RBI.

Single-A South Bend

Cubs beat West Michigan 4-2.

  • LHP Brailyn Marquez dominated over 6.0 innings, picking up the quality start. Marquez yielded just 6 hits and 2 runs. He struck out 6 and walked 1. Marquez hit 101 mph on the radar gun.
  • 3B Chris Morel went 3-for-4 with a solo homer for a total of 2 RBI.
  • OF Brennen Davis went 1-for-4 with an RBI double. Davis now has 7 RBI in his last 10 games.

High-A Myrtle Beach

Pelicans beat Carolina 4-2.

  • RHP Erich Uelmen went 5 2/3 innings, allowing 4 hits and 1 unearned run. He struck out 4 and walked 1. Uelmen has been sharp over his last 2 starts, allowing only 2 earned runs in 11 2/3 innings.
  • OF D.J. Wilson went 1-for-3 with a 2-run homer. Wilson now has 10 RBI in his last 5 games.
  • 1B Tyler Durna went 2-for-3 with 1 RBI and a walk. Durna is hitting.309 with 43 RBI combined between South Bend and Myrtle Beach this season.

Double-A Tennessee

Smokies fell to Birmingham 3-2.

  • RHP Thomas Hatch was excellent for the Smokies despite the loss. Hatch surrendered 6 hits and 3 runs over 6 2/3 innings. The best part, he struck out 10 and walked 0.
  • 2B Vimael Machin went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and a walk.

Triple-A Iowa

Cubs beat San Antonio 5-2.

  • RHP Colin Rea continued the strong pitching trend with another quality start. Rea fired 6 1/3 innings, allowing 2 hits and 2 earned runs. He struck out 6 and walked 3. Rea is 10-2 with a 3.24 ERA in 17 starts this season. He also became the Pacific Coast League leader in pitching wins.
  • OF Donnie Dewees went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and a walk.
  • 3B Phillip Evans went 2-for-4 with 1 RBI and a walk. Evans incredibly has an RBI in 9 consecutive games. He’s hitting .269 with 11 homers and 43 RBI in 81 games this season.
