Excellent pitching:

  • RHP Matt Swarmer tossed one of his best starts of the season for Iowa. Swarmer allowed 5 hits and 2 runs over 6.1 innings while striking out 8. He’s given up 3 or fewer runs in each of his last 3 starts.
  • RHP Erick Leal turned in another strong start for Tennessee with 1 unearned run in 5.0 innings. Leal struck out 7 and walked 2. He has not allowed an earned run in back-to-back starts (10.0 innings) for the Smokies.
  • RHP Alexander Vargas had an excellent performance for Myrtle Beach with 6.0 shutout innings. Vargas struck out 3 and walked 1.
