Excellent pitching:
- RHP Colin Rea fired 7.0 shutout innings for Iowa, allowing just 5 hits. Rea struck out 6 and walked 2. He is now 12-3 with a 3.50 ERA in 23 starts this season.
- RHP Carlos Vega made his 1st start of the season for South Bend, throwing 4.0 scoreless innings. Vega had a 2.33 ERA in 10 relief appearances this season.
- RHP Michael McAvene tossed 2.0 more scoreless innings for Eugene. McAvene struck out 3 and walked 1. He was the Cubs 3rd round pick in this year’s draft out of Louisville.
Excellent hitting:
- SS Addison Russell homered in his 2nd straight game for Iowa. Russell went 2-for-3 with a 2-run homer.
- 1B Jake Slaughter went 3-for-4 for South Bend. Slaughter is now hitting .321 in 52 games between Eugene and South Bend this season.
- RF Edmond Americaan went 3-for-4 with a triple and 2 RBI for Eugene. Americaan is hitting .350 in his last 10 games for the Emeralds.
