Cubs Minor League Recap (7/9)

The Cubs farm system went 0-4 on Monday.

Low-A Eugene

Emeralds fell to Salem-Keizer 9-7.

  • 2B Chase Strumpf went 2-for-4 with a solo homer for a total of 2 RBI. Strumpf is 6-for-9 with 3 RBI in his last 2 games. He was the Cubs 2nd round pick in this year’s draft.
  • OF Zac Taylor went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI. Taylor is hitting .418 with 5 homers and 17 RBI in 13 combined games this season. He was the Cubs 25th round pick in this year’s draft.
  • 1B Grayson Byrd went 3-for-5 with a triple. Byrd is hitting .333 with 11 RBI in 12 games combined this season. He was the Cubs 24th round pick in this year’s draft.

Single-A South Bend

Cubs fell to Dayton 5-4.

  • C Marcus Mastrobuoni went 1-for-3 with a 2-run homer.
  • DH Fidel Mejia went 1-for-4 with a solo homer.
  • 3B Chris Morel went 1-for-4 with a triple. Morel now has a triple in back-to-back games and 7 overall this season. He is hitting .284 in 71 games this year.

High-A Myrtle Beach

Pelicans fell to Down East 3-1 in a rain-shortened game.

  • LHP Ryan Kellogg was excellent again over 5.0 innings. Kellogg gave up 5 hits and 1 run while striking out 2 and walking none. He has allowed just 1 run in his last 2 starts (10.0 innings)

Double-A Tennessee

Smokies fell to Montgomery 6-1.

  • RHP Thomas Hatch threw another quality start despite the loss. Hatch allowed 6 hits and 2 runs in 6.0 innings. He struck out 2 but walked 5.

Triple-A Iowa

Off, All-Star break.
