Cubs Pitching Prospect Cory Abbott Has a Big Year Ahead

Cubs Pitching Prospect Cory Abbott enters his 2nd full year in the organization. He was the Cubs runner-up for Minor League Pitcher of the Year last year. And he’s going to have another big year.

Abbott dominated last season, going 8-6 (22 starts) with a 2.50 ERA and 1.16 WHIP. He struck out 131 in 115.0 innings, establishing himself as a top pitcher in the farm system. Abbott is now in Tennessee where he is off to a great start.

Abbott allowed just 2 hits and 1 earned run over 5.0 innings in his AA debut on Friday.

Cory Abbott was selected by the Cubs in the 2nd round of the 2017 MLB draft. He made a name for himself at Loyola-Marymount, tossing their only perfect game. Abbott struck out 13 in 9.0 innings of work with 106 pitches. That’s pretty incredible.

Just like most of the Cubs prospects, Abbott was out in Mesa during March pitching in minor league intersquad games. Here’s a video below we produced of Abbott from his start on 3/20:
