Cubs Reportedly Acquire Right-Hander From Blue Jays For Minor Leaguer

The Cubs have made their 1st of likely multiple trades at the deadline. Right-hander David Phelps from the Blue Jays has reportedly been traded to Chicago for Minor League pitcher, Thomas Hatch.

Phelps has only pitched in 17 games this season, coming off Tommy John surgery. He’s posted a 3.63 ERA in 17 1/3 innings.  Phelps has a career 3.88 ERA and 1.31 WHIP.

This is Phelps’ 7th season in the majors. He’s been with the Yankees, Marlins, and Mariners before signing a deal with the Blue Jays in January. Phelps has a $1-million club option in 2020.

Hatch was the Cubs 3rd round pick in 2016.
