BOOM! Kyle Hendricks will be staying a Cub for a long time.
The Cubs just announced on Tuesday afternoon that they have extended Hendricks’ contract 4 years with a 5th-year vesting option.
Hendricks is entering his 6th season as a Cub. He’s posted a 52-33 record, 3.07 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and a 7.6 K/9 in his Cubs career.
Let’s not forget Hendricks’ awesome 2016 NLCS Game 6 performance that earned this extension long ago. Hendricks mowed down the Dodgers with 7.0 scoreless innings and 6 strikeouts, punching the Cubs ticket to the World Series.
Hendricks will still make a $7.405-million salary for this season. Though, Kyle Hendricks still has plenty of money ahead:
2020: $12 million
2021: $14 million
2022: $14 million
2023: $14 million
2024: $16 million (vesting option)
Cubs announce that they have signed Hendricks to a 4-year exention with team option for 2024. Theo discussing it now in Mesa. More soon.
