After batting just .135 in 17 Spring Training games, the Cubs optioned Ian Happ to Iowa for the start of this season. Happ is now into the middle of May with Iowa. Things aren’t going too well for his bat.
Ian Happ is batting a mere .229/.355/.371/.726 (AVG, OBP, SLG, OPS) in 39 games. Happ has a total of 32 hits and 4 homers translating over to 21 RBI.
Happ’s patience at the plate, however, has improved. He is averaging 0.6 walks per game compared to just 0.49 last season.
His strikeout rate has gone down as well, averaging 1.02 strikeouts per game compared to 1.18 last season.
From what it looks like, Ian Happ is still a long way off from returning to the big leagues. It’s good to see his patience at the plate increasing but his bat is still a work in progress.
