Illinois Center Kofi Cockburn Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

After an impressive opening week for the Illini, Illinois center Kofi Cockburn was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday!

Here are some notes from Cockburn’s performance:

  • Averaged 14.0 points and 10.7 rebounds while shooting 60 percent from the floor in helping Illinois to a 2-1 week to open his collegiate career
  • Became the first Illinois freshman in 37 years to record double-doubles in his first two college games, the first since Efrem Winters in 1982
  • Opened his career with 10 points and 11 rebounds in a victory over Nicholls
  • PostedΒ  23 points and corralled 14 rebounds while shooting 8-of-12 from the floor in a victory at Grand Canyon on Friday
  • Closed the week with nine points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots at No. 21 Arizona
