David Ross still has an impact on the Cubs 3 years after his retirement from the league!
On the 5yr anniversary of his major league debut, Baez homered twice & said he’s just grateful to be playing. Says he’s learned & grown a lot & credited David Ross for once telling him to “let the game teach me things I needed to know.” That stuck w/him.

Javy said he used to ask David Ross a lot of questions when he first came up. Eventually Ross told him he didn’t need to ask so much, just play and let the game teach him what he wants to know. “That was big thing for me. I started learning simple stuff.”

Since Ross would have told him that, Baez has been the runner up for NL MVP, a 2x All-Star, a Silver Slugger Award Winner, and established himself as one of the best defenders/taggers/and tag avoiders in the game.
