And finally some of the top performances from the Cubs farm system on Thursday:
- RHP Zach Mort dominated for Eugene, earning the win. Mort fired 6.0 shutout innings allowing just 2 hits. He struck out 4 and walked 1. Mort hasn’t allowed a run in his first 2 Emeralds starts (10.0 innings).
- RHP Derek Casey was strong for South Bend despite the loss. Casey yielded 4 hits and 1 earned run in 5.0 innings. He struck out 4 and walked 2.
- 2B Robel Garcia homered again for Iowa, his 18th of the season. Garcia is hitting .289 with 54 RBI in 61 games this season split between Iowa and Tennessee. He has been the Cubs biggest breakout prospect this season.
